Earthquakes and Tornados and G20 Summits Oh My!

I was sitting here staring out the window daydreaming when I felt the building sway from side to side... now I wasn't alarmed since the building tends to move sometimes but this time it lasted a good 30 seconds...

EARTHQUAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know Toronto's been hit before with tiny tremors before but nothing like this one... 5.5 on the richter scale at 1:44pm today. As we shook and shook we all looked at each other wondering if indeed this was an earthquake or something else... that's how NOT used to it we are over here.. (how do you californians deal with this over and over)

I headed over to twitter and tweeted about the shaking only to scroll down and see I wasn't the only one. People as far away as Cleavland felt the tremors and its said the the epicenter was in Quebec.

I knew the jokes about Quebec trying to separate from the rest of Canada again were inevitable but then the jokes about the possible tornado tonight and the G20 summit happening here over the next few days filled twitter...

Its dark and gloomy here now and as people start to chill out and realize ok that wasn't so bad life begins to get back to normal... until tonight's Tornado that is...

Will I be home taking cover under a blanket? NO ill be accessory shopping for my besties bday (which is today happy bday girl I got you and earthquake!) party on Saturday... Shopping stops for nothing!

Anyone else feel today's quake??

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay PRICELESS!!

Today me and my beautiful city got to experience the once in a lifetime chance of seeing the Olympic torch switch runners and flames.

I left work just before the 12:40pm switch rushed to make it on time, walked across the street to the "spot" only to find a large crowd starting to gather. I felt everyone's excitement and it was catchy!

Even though I went alone I cheered loudly as the torch approached and it was truly and experience I will never forget.

Today especially I am SO proud to be a Canadian!!

Today is December 1st... World Aids Day.

World AIDS Day is observed every year on December 1. It was first observed in 1988 after a summit of health ministers from around the world called for a spirit of social tolerance and a greater exchange of information on HIV/AIDS. World AIDS Day serves to strengthen the global effort to face the challenges of the AIDS pandemic.

While the rate of death from AIDS in Canada has declined dramatically it still effects millions in other countries such as Africa. AIDS is killing 6,000 people a day in Africa. No family is unaffected. Employers hire 2-3 people per position, in order to have one trained person still alive to do the job. Shop stewards double as AIDS counselors.

How can I help?
Go grab a Starbucks coffee...simple as that!

Starbucks Coffee Company has announced that on World AIDS Day, Dec. 1 2009, it will make a 5-cent contribution to the Global Fund for every hand-crafted beverage sold on that day at participating stores in the United States and Canada.

The company also said that if customers are unable to make it to a Starbucks store on World Aids Day, they can still be a part of the fight against AIDS in Africa by visiting the company's Web site where they can contribute a drawing in which each participating Starbucks will make a 5-cent contribution to the Global Fund, up to 1 million drawings.

R.I.P MJ THE KING OF POP

*Ring ring*
Hello?
Hey, you're never going to believe who died....
WHO?
Michael Jackson
WHAT?!!! Are you f'n kidding me?
NO its so sad...
HOW?
Cardiac arrest.... its all over the news..
Wow... I'm speechless....

Mr. 25 called to tell me the sad news... I was out shopping for a dress for a happy occasion (one of my bff's engagement party), happy that I had found "the" dress when I was hit with this news...

I wasn't really sure how to feel... I felt my heart sink a little and the feeling of deep sadness come over me. WHY? because I have always been a huge MJ fan even through all his controversial times. He was a symbol of my youth, memories of my little brother trying to do the moon walk. I still get excited every single time I hear a MJ song come on the radio..

Where were you when you heard the news?

His music was timeless, classic and nothing short of amazing!
He will be truly missed not only by his millions of fans but by the world of entertainment...

As a tribute Ill post some of my favorite Jackson pics & songs (some I wont be able to embed)... What are your favorites? Memories?

RIP Farrah Fawcett

Farrah Fawcett Has Died at Age 62.

Entertainment Tonight just posted:

"ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT has learned that Farrah Fawcett died today at St. John's Health Center in Los Angeles after a courageous and lengthy battle with anal cancer. She was 62.

The '70s style icon and "Charlie's Angels" star was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on February 2, 1947 and attended the University of Texas at Austin. She got her first career break in the late 1960s, appearing in TV commercials and then guest-starring on TV shows such as "I Dream of Jeannie," "The Flying Nun" and "The Partridge Family." She also appeared on several episodes of "The Six Million Dollar Man," starring husband Lee Majors. The couple married in 1973 but separated in 1979, divorcing in 1982. Afterwards, Farrah began a tempestuous, on-and-off relationship with actor Ryan O'Neal, and the pair had a son, Redmond O'Neal, in 1985."

I am glad she is no longer suffering. Rest in peace...

Not only was she beautiful and talented but we shared a name... well Sort of...

Stay Pretty,
